Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who are already parents to one-year-old son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, said their first child is set to become a “big brother”.

Well, their son Archie does not have one, as the royal couple decided against it.

He could have been Earl of Dumbarton, or Lord Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. However, he is just Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.

For this reason it is unlikely that the couple will give their second child a title, but he is of course entitled to one.

The newest royal baby, August, whose parents are Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank does not have a title either.

This is due to the fact that titles are passed down the male line, and Jack is not royal.

Interestingly the Queen’s daughter, Princess Anne, also elected to not give her children Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips titles.

On the ITV documentary Anne: The Princess Royal at 70, Peter said: “We were always brought up on the understanding that we were going to have to go to work.

“We were going to have to go out and earn our living. Regardless of the fact of who our grandmother was or who our mother was.”

His sister then added: “I think it made us fight harder as well, to try and be as successful as we could be, so we’re very grateful to her not giving us a title anyway.”
