SEISS was confirmed to continue earlier this year after being initially introduced for a short period of time in March 2020 in the early stages of the pandemic. Chancellor Rishi Sunak confirmed additional support in his March 9 Spring Budget, with support being weaned off as the economy reopens throughout the next few months. The next SEISS grant will be the final one and cover the period July to September.
When can I claim SEISS grant five?
HMRC has updated its guidance for when claimants can expect to get their payment for the final instalment of the scheme.
In a statement on Gov’s website, HMRC write: “If you’re eligible based on your tax returns, HMRC will contact you from mid-July to give you a date that the claims service will be available to you from.
“It will be given to you either by email, letter or within the online service.”
The guidance adds that the online service to claim the fifth grant will be available from late July, with claims having to be made before September 30, 2021.

HMRC will check claims and take appropriate action to withhold or recover payments for claims found to be inaccurate or dishonest.
They said: “If you know you’re not eligible for the grant and do not tell us, you may also have to pay a penalty.”
If an amendment to your tax return on or after March 3, 2021, lowers the amount of grant you’re eligible for, you need to tell HMRC within 90 days – and you may need to pay back some or all of the grant.
