What Man Utd players think about Paul Pogba leaving in this summer’s transfer window | Football | Sport

Manchester United players will be devastated if Paul Pogba leaves the club this summer, according to reports. The France international remains a transfer target for Juventus, while Real Madrid are in the hunt as well. His future at Old Trafford is far from certain, with his contract due to expire next summer.

Manchester United have fought hard to keep Pogba in recent years.

The France international wanted to leave Old Trafford in the summer transfer window of 2018, setting his sights on a move to Barcelona at the time.

But that didn’t happen, with United denying him a move away.

Pogba again pushed to depart in 2019 following the club’s failure to secure Champions League football but, in the end, was forced to remain at the Theatre of Dreams.

Now, with his contract due to expire next summer, talk of the midfielder leaving has gathered momentum again.

United are yet to tie him down to new and improved terms, with Juventus and Real Madrid long linked with transfer deals.

And a source has told The Sun that United players want Pogba to stay put, claiming they’ll be ‘devastated’ if he jumps ship.

“Paul may be regarded with suspicion by a lot of the fanbase because of his agent courting other clubs, but there is no doubt where the players stand with him,” they’re quoted as saying.

“They recognise he is one of the team’s stars and he is as desperate as they are for the club to be successful again.

“He is well-liked by all his team-mates and no one wants him to leave.

“But they also understand if a player is unhappy, it usually leads to his departure.

“They all hope he will start the next season at Old Trafford.”

Speaking recently, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made it clear he wanted Pogba to remain at the club instead of leaving.

The Norwegian managed the midfielder at academy level and has helped lift the player’s mood following the disastrous Jose Mourinho era.

And he said: “While he’s been at the club Paul has always wanted what is best for Man United.

“He’s been such an important part of the squad on and off the pitch.

“Paul is a player we want to see at Man United and play well. Just to have him back fit for the last two months, he’s going to be important to us.

“We know he can be the difference between many, many points or going through in Europe like we did against AC Milan.

“The focus is now on finishing the season strongly and Paul knows what my thoughts are.”

He also insisted a fully-fit Pogba would be a ‘boost’ ahead of the crunch months of the campaign.

“It’ll be a massive boost and he’s come back bright and he’s ready to go,” the United manager said. “We know how important he will be for us and how important he has been.

“To have players of his quality out for longer periods, that just shows the quality of the others as well.

“But towards the end of the season now, having Paul back fit and getting our forwards back firing again, hopefully we can get that spark and score more goals again.”

Pogba isn’t the only United player who could be on the move this summer.

David De Gea’s future at Old Trafford is currently up in the air, with the Spain international below Dean Henderson in the pecking order.

Phil Jones, who has been at the club since arriving from Blackburn Rovers a decade ago, is likely to be cut loose.

And Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Nemanja Matic may also be shown the door, too, especially with Solskjaer’s interest in the likes of Declan Rice and Erling Haaland.
