West Ham using Harry Maguire money on Chelsea target with Blues ‘in danger’ of losing deal | Football | Sport

West Ham might spend their Harry Maguire money on hijacking a Chelsea transfer after reportedly moving on from the Manchester United defender. It is claimed that a deal for the England star to join the Hammers has stalled due to negotiations between the player and the Red Devils over a pay-off.

The East London outfit have supposedly moved on from Maguire quickly, with other moves now being lined up. According to reports in the French media, David Moyes’s side are interested in signing exciting forward Elye Wahi from Montpellier.

West Ham have apparently made a bid in the region of £30million for the prolific youngster. It is the same amount that they had allegedly bid for Maguire.

Wahi has earned a reputation as one of Europe’s best young strikers. The 20-year-old scored 19 goals in 33 appearances for his French club last season.

According to RMC Sport, West Ham are lining up an offer for Wahi to bolster their attacking options. It could be a move that disappoints Chelsea given the Blues’ previous interest in the France U21 man.

The report adds that Wahi questioned Chelsea’s sporting project, though, with Chelsea ‘in danger’ of losing out. That is despite just Nicolas Jackson available to Mauricio Pochettino in terms of striking talent.

It is likely that he would land more game time at West Ham this season. Moyes boasts just Michail Antonio and Danny Ings as his centre-forward options. Flop Gianluca Scamacca departed to Atalanta after just a year with the Conference League winners.

After reported discontent among the hierarchy at West Ham, the Premier League side are finally cracking on with their summer business. Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse have arrived from Ajax and Southampton, respectively, for a combined £61m.

Moyes has plenty of cash to spend after sanctioning Declan Rice’s £105m switch to Arsenal this summer. But it remains to be seen if any of that money will go towards a move for Rice’s England team-mate Maguire.

The centre-back is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford after falling to fourth-choice in his position. Erik ten Hag even stripped the 30-year-old of the club captaincy.

According to The Athletic, a transfer to West Ham has stalled, though. Despite the two clubs reaching an agreement over the move, there has been an impasse due to negotiations over the terms of his exit.
