Max Verstappen has dismissed the challenge of Ferrari at the Italian Grand Prix, even after they topped both Formula 1 Friday practice sessions.

Charles Leclerc led a one-two in FP1, while Carlos Sainz Jr went P1 in FP2, as Verstappen just pipped Leclerc for P2.

Verstappen is on a run of four successive wins and has closing in on a second world title, and did not think Ferrari presented much of a challenge at Monza – despite him being pencilled in for a five-place grid drop for a new Internal Combustion Engine.

Verstappen “not worried”

“Ferrari looks good, but I’m not worried,” explained the World Champion to media including RacingNews365.com.

“Monza is not Spa-Francorchamps, but if it foes half as well as it did there, I think we have a good chance.”

Verstappen also had a grid drop at Spa, starting 14th, and was leading for the first time by Lap 12 as he crushed the field on his way to victory.

As for Monza, Verstappen was confident that “the most important thing towards the race, the long run looked good” while Red Bull still had things to experiment with for Saturday.
