What is Statutory Sick Pay?
Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) is money paid to you by your employer if you are unwell and unable to work.
Most employees are entitled to SSP including part-time workers, agency workers and those on fixed-term contracts.
Employees must earn an average of at least £120 a week to qualify for SSP but cannot claim if for longer than 28 weeks unless you return to work for at least eight weeks.
Statutory Sick Pay is a fixed amount of £95.85 a week, but some individuals may be entitled to more if contractual sick pay terms indicate this in your employment contract.
SSP has changed amid the coronavirus pandemic and is now available to those who are required to self-isolate because they have been notified that they have come into contact with someone who has coronavirus and they are unable to work as a result.
But other eligibility criteria will apply.
