TV stars pull plug on Bondi Beach renovation

Sky News rising star Laura Jayes and her husband, the former Seven reporter Alex Hart, have decided not to progress with the remake of their Bondi Beach property.

They have instead opted to list the home through Luxe Listings cast member Gavin Rubinstein, who is giving a $2.8 million to $3 million price guidance.

Their Bokey-Grant designs, approved in September by Waverley Council, come with a $1.36 million estimated cost.

The property is currently a three bedroom single-storey rendered semi with front sunroom under a pitched tile roof. Their nifty renovation plans included adding a second storey, installing a rear pool, and improving its basement usage.

It includes retention of the existing double garage but with construction of an internal passageway to enable access via a lift.

The couple bought the 1910 semi on 280sq m for $3.05 million in May, 2021.

It was in February 2021 when they put their prior property, a French-inspired Bondi Beach home to auction, selling in mid-March for $3.8 million after having had a $3.6 million vendor bid.

It had been completely rebuilt behind its facade after being bought for $2.59 million in 2017.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom, semi-detached Simpson St address, was close to New South Head Rd.

It was 2015 when they married at St Joan of Arc in South Australia’s Victor Harbor followed by a reception at Port Elliot’s Waverley Estate.

Their first home in Sydney was an apartment in Bellevue Hill which cost $840,000 in 2014.

They sold it to industry colleague Matt Doran in 2017 at $1,385,000. Doran unsuccessfully tried to sell it this year.

Hart left television reporting after 17 years in October last year to become the government relations manager at Transurban.

He had begun at Channel 10 Adelaide in 2005.

Jayes, who grew up at Cronulla, was last in the news herself when she was the face of pandemic self-isolation in June last year after she was deemed a close contact following a visit to the Joh Bailey hairdressing salon in Double Bay.
