TV licence: Furious viewers demand fee is abolished as DWP unveils Pension Credit changes | Personal Finance | Finance

Yesterday, the Culture Secretary said: “The BBC’s disappointing decision to stop providing free TV licences for all over-75s has left low-income pensioners who remain eligible jumping through administrative hoops to avoid paying the charge.

“The changes mean those receiving Pension Credit will get the savings with minimum fuss, ensuring more people get the support they are entitled to as we tackle the cost of living and grow the economy.”

The new plans will make it easier for those who are eligible to get a free TV licence by taking the extra bureaucracy out of the process.

However, some 850,000 pensioners aren’t claiming Pension Credit despite the fact they are eligible – which means they will also miss out on a free TV licence.
