Jamie Carragher has hit out at pundits such as Roy Keane for “lazy punditry” when talking about Tottenham. Manchester United legend Keane has been strong with his criticism of Tottenham during his role as a pundit for Sky Sports. Speaking earlier this month, before the sacking of Jose Mourinho, the former Republic of Ireland international said “Spurs have been soft for the last 40 years” and will continue to be soft after Mourinho leaves.
Last June, Keane criticised the DNA of Tottenham as a club, saying: “In that DNA with Spurs, there’s still a weakness to them, there’s still a softness to them.”
A month later, following a 0-0 draw at Bournemouth, he once again hit out at the north London side in a scathing verbal attack.
“That’s in Tottenham’s DNA, they will constantly disappoint you,” Keane said.
“The table doesn’t lie, ninth, that’s where they deserve to be.”
“What we saw under [Mauricio] Pochettino for three years was outstanding. What I saw under Harry Redknapp for two, three years was outstanding as well.”
Tottenham were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
And Carragher admits performances such as that at Wembley make Spurs an easy target for critics.
Carragher continued: “This [defeat] has nothing to do with Ryan Mason. At all. This is a group of players who really lack courage and basically bottled it in the final. Forget losing. They weren’t expected to win against Man City but how they went about it.
