Harry Kane was back out on the grass yesterday for an outdoor session, offering hope that he will be fit for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final. Tottenham are eager to welcome back their talisman, who missed the 2-1 win over Southampton on Wednesday night with an ankle injury.

Kane hobbled off after picking up the problem in last week’s 2-2 draw at Everton.

Having scored twice for his side, Kane’s ankle appeared to roll in the turf following contact from Richarlison in his own box.

He was able to walk off the field but supporters were left fearing the worst given Kane’s history with ankle problems.

Earlier this season he picked up a similar issue against Liverpool but made a swift return a few games later for the 2-0 home win over West Brom.

Kane has previously suffered ankle ligament damage on two separate occasions and Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate will be desperate to ensure he’s in top condition ahead of this summer’s European Championships.

Speaking yesterday, interim boss Mason refused to confirm whether Kane would be fit for the final.

“With Harry it is just about taking it each day as it comes,” Mason said.

“We know he is doing absolutely everything he can to be back out on the football pitch.

“On Wednesday he wasn’t but hopefully by the end of the week we will know about bit more about that.”

Kane has already made it clear that the players are right behind his former team-mate Mason, who has been given the chance to lead the team until the end of the season.

“With Harry it is just about taking it each day as it comes,” Mason said.

“We know he is doing absolutely everything he can to be back out on the football pitch.

“On Wednesday he wasn’t but hopefully by the end of the week we will know about bit more about that.”
