Tottenham are reportedly closing in on a late deal for Swansea defender Joe Rodon. The young defender has appeared on Spurs’ radar having previously attracted interest from Manchester United and West Ham this summer.
The 22-year-old has made a huge impression in the Championship and has already been capped four times by Wales boss Ryan Giggs.
United were set to move for the centre-back but decided to focus their transfer exploits on other areas of their squad.
Now Rodon is tempting Tottenham and according to The Athletic, a late bid is on the cards.
Swansea would be willing to sell and they value the player at £18million.
It’s a fee that would suit Tottenham, who have just a small percentage of their transfer budget remaining.
Sky Sports’ Paul Gilmour claims he has been told that a deal is in fact close and could be completed tonight.
Spurs have held talks with Inter over a deal for Milan Skriniar but they do not have the funds to pay their £45m valuation.
Inter had initially been keen on a swap deal involving Tanguy Ndombele but Spurs are determined to keep the player, who is slowly turning things around in north London.
Tottenham were quietly optimistic they could get a deal for Skriniar over the line until Inter decided he was no longer for sale.
The Slovakian wanted the move to west London but Inter were not ready to reduce their asking price.
Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger was also an option on loan but the Blues do not want to let him join a direct rival.
He was also keen on a move to Stamford Bridge after being left out of Frank Lampard’s last five squads.
