Full council tax bills are based on at least two adults living in a home, with partners being jointly responsible for paying the bills.
A 25 percent discount will automatically be applied if a person lives on their own or no-one else in the home counts as an adult.
It’s possible council tax discounts may be awarded by mistake and where this happens, recipients will need to inform their council as soon as possible to avoid getting fined.
