A Russian SU-30 warplane has been caught on camera plummeting to the ground and erupting in a cloud of smoke in front of a horrified crowd. The two pilots onboard were reportedly killed as a result of the crash which took place on Sunday (August 12).

The SU-30 warplane was on a training flight near Kaliningrad when it exploded after losing control due to what authorities called a “technical fault.”

Local military officials confirmed that the aircraft was not carrying any ammunition at the time of the crash. Both crew members were killed when the jet crashed in an empty area.

Although the official statement indicated that the crash occurred in an uninhabited region, video footage reveals that a gathering of people attending an outdoor event actually witnessed the crash.

Following the aircraft’s steep dive, a dense plume of dark smoke can be raising from the impact site.

In a statement, the Western Military District said: “On August 12, while performing a training flight in the Kaliningrad region, a Su-30 aircraft crashed in a deserted area.

“The flight was carried out without ammunition. The crew died.”

According to the investigation’s findings, the incident was caused by a technical breakdown on the Su-30 aircraft.

This is not the first time one of these planes has malfunctioned in recent months.

In October of the previous year, a Su-30 aircraft plummeted quickly into an Irkutsk suburb while on a test flight from the Irkutsk Aviation Plant. According to reports, the pilots were asphyxiated within the Soviet-era fighter plane, causing it to plummet from the skies.

The exact moment the jet collided with a building in Serbia was captured on video, resulting in the deaths of both pilots.

A two-story building was struck as a result of the jet’s crash, forcing an evacuation as a precaution.

This is the second time a Su-30 has been involved in a crash in the last year.

A MiG-31 just crashed into the Pacific Ocean while conducting a training flight above Avacha Bay.

The Russian Navy responded by conducting a search and rescue mission.

During the same month, a Su-25 fighter bomber collided with the Sea of Azov, which was witnessed by a large number of beachgoers who recorded and posted recordings of the crash online.
