Congratulations on welcoming baby Maximus James Kinsella! How are you finding juggling your clinic and life as a new dad?

It is fantastic. I really miss my little boy when I am at work but I think I am quite lucky that I work for myself and I can choose my own hours.

It is hard when you are in clinic and you have a young baby at home who requires a lot of attention but you have also got to be on best form for your patients in the clinic as well.

Hanna is so good she is not practising at her dental clinic at the moment. She is doing a hell of a lot of the day-to-day work at home to make life easier for me in clinic so I am a little bit more rested.

It is a great feeling to have our first baby but you just want to be with them!

How are Hanna and Maximus?

Hanna and Max are doing good. He is just over three months and he is doing really well. I know I am bias but he is just so gorgeous and the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.

He is very healthy, seems to be very happy and he is such a good baby. Hanna is just an incredible mum – she has taken to it like a duck to water and the two of them are just best mates!

They have really bonded which is lovely to see and we are just looking forward to spending time together as the three of us.

We might have a holiday later this year if we are lucky enough. I think we all need a holiday!

What are main post-lockdown skincare concerns that your clients have noticed?

People are finding that the use of masks is causing them blocked pores, possibly even more acne as well as spots and irritation.

Everyone wants a bright, clear complexion with smooth skin, minimised pores and a glowing effect.

This is often why people are often asking for peels, or injectable treatments that improve the actual look of the skin.

What are the go-to ingredients and products for bright, glowing skin?

The right cleanser is really, really, important as well as using the correct serum for the skin type.

People should look for serums that contain ingredients like vitamin C, ferulic acid, which help maintain the skin’s complexion and making it look dewy.

In terms of skincare, one of the big things we use at our clinic is Universkin. We can customise serums to the client by adding antioxidants like vitamin C as well as hydrating agents like aloe vera.

What are the hottest skincare trends that you are seeing at the moment?

In terms of injectables into the skin, Profhilo is quite topical at the moment. It is an injectable hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin which makes it look thick and help it to glow.

The big treatment everyone wants at the moment is Morpheus8 which we offer as a course of three sessions in the clinic.

It is used to tighten and also re-surface the skin by using micro-needling and radio frequency. It has all over the media since Andy Murray’s mum Judy, 61, had it and she now looks about 20 years younger.

The micro-needles are used to get radio frequency deeper down into the skin in order to heat, tighten and also create new collagen which provides strength and structure.

How are your clients looking to enhance their appearance?

We are seeing lots of people requesting under-eye tear trough filler because I think they are spending a lot of time on Zoom and social media.

However, they are not seeing themselves in natural day light they are getting quite an obscured view of themselves.

So, they are becoming more aware of tear troughs hollowing out under their eyes because they are constantly seeing themselves on a screen.

If you are in a room with lights above you it can actually be quite a harsh, unforgiving light.

If I stand in my room with a down light I will think, “God don’t I look old,” but if I put a ring light on my face, all of sudden, I look great.

However, in day light you are getting more of a ring light effect.

We are seeing lots of people for jaw, cheek contouring and also fillers in the nose are really popular.

In the past people thought the only option was to have a surgical rhinoplasty to fix a slightly deviated, small bump or hook in their nose.

But now you can get really good results with filler if they are used on the right clients.

What is the most popular treatment at your Re-Enhance clinics based in Cheshire, West Yorkshire, London and Mallorca?

The treatment I am busiest with day-to-day as a doctor is facial contouring. People are wanting injectable treatments to contour and lift their face as well as improve jowls.

It is basically a combination of injectables, threads and skin-tightening treatments and it is what. have always been busy with.

There are so many skincare brands and advice out there. What are the common misconceptions about skincare?

The thing with skincare products is that there are so many out there that people think they have to use 20 different products when all they need is two or three that are suitable for their skin.

The skin needs to be assessed to have products that are targeted to the actual concerns whether it be pigmentation or rejuvenation.

Some people just need really basic skincare advice such as using a good cleanser, using a good serum and the right moisturising SPF for them.

My advice for people who are just looking at dipping their toe into skincare and taking it seriously is to incorporate just two quality products.

What is the best anti-ageing ingredient to look for?

I think in terms of anti-ageing, vitamin A, also known as retinol, are really good for maintaining and reversing the signs of ageing.

If you want to reduce wrinkles, improve skin thickness and hydration of the skin long-term then retinol is the best way to go.

What is your favourite skincare ingredient?

I love vitamin c and ferulic acid, [found in the cell walls of plants], which is another antioxidant. I also incorporate retinol, azelaic acid, [produced naturally by yeast], and vitamin b5 into my skincare.

What should people look for when they are going for a treatment?

The most important thing is the consultation to understand all the best treatment options for the patient rather than best products that practitioner offers.

I think some off-the-shelf products are not suitable for everyone so it is not always a one-size fits all approach.
