Queen’s closest friends and how she’s ‘very chatty’ with those she trusts

Queen Elizabeth reportedly has a small circle of close pals and is ‘very chatty’ with those who she really trusts.

Her Majesty, 95, has been spending more time with her close confidants and family since the passing of her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, back in April.

She is said to have an “intimate” bubble of people who she truly trusts, and there’s definitely only a select few who make the cut.

A royal insider has lifted the lid on who the Queen classes as a close friend to People, saying: “Those who are in it cherish their place. They are a support for the Queen and someone that they can have a laugh with and she can talk about the issues of the day.”

In the summer Her Majesty is believed to have begun having friends over at Windsor for lunches and dinner, and even enjoyed relaxing and watching late night TV with some of them.

Those in the Queen’s close-knit circle are believed to be ladies-in-waiting such as Lady Susan Hussey, who has known Elizabeth for around six decades, Lady Annabel Whitehead, Lady Elizabeth Leeming, and Susan Rhodes.

Prince Charles’ former nanny, Mabel Anderson, is also considered to be one of the Queen’s close confidants.

It’s believed that between this circle of close pals and her loyal staff, such as stylist Angela Kelly and footman Paul Whybrew, Her Majesty is rarely left on her own.

Angela has previously opened up about her friendship with the Queen, revealing that she has a “wicked” sense of humour.

The royal insider explained: “The Queen can go from being magisterial to chatty with those she trusts. She has good judgement once she trusts people – and once she does it is very easy.”

Alongside her trustworthy friends, Queen Elizabeth also receives regular visits from certain family members.

Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, live in Bagshot which is just a short drive from Her Majesty’s home, and are believed to frequently visit.

The Queen’s youngest son, Prince Andrew, visits his mother often as he lives nearby in Windsor Great Park at Royal Lodge.

The Queen was set to be reunited with her family next week, with the Royal Family’s annual pre-Christmas lunch originally planned for Tuesday 21 December.

But Her Majesty has now decided to “regretfully” cancel the event, due to the current fears concerning the rise in coronavirus cases.

She reportedly feels the lunch would be too risky as the annual festive event sees her host over 50 members of the royal family.

The Daily Mail’s Royal correspondent Rebecca English, posted on Twitter: “It could put too many people’s Christmas arrangements at risk if it went ahead.”

“The decision is a precautionary one,” she continued. “The Queen is regretful, but feels it is the right thing to do.”
