Mick Schumacher thinks a points finish at Monza was on offer for Haas, despite being bullish about their chances heading into the weekend.

The Haas driver started from 17th after taking a new components in his gearbox which dropped him 15-places, but worked his way through to 12th by the time the race ended under Safety Car.

The German praised the “good drive” but thinks they could’ve broken into the top 10 had the race been restarted.

“It was definitely a good drive, but unfortunately we didn’t didn’t really get anything out of it,” he told media, including RacingNews365.com.

“I think points were possible and especially once the Safety Car came out, I was like really? Okay. Now we’re in a good position for some decent points.

“But nonetheless, it’s obviously [done] in the thought of safety, if that’s the right decision, for sure I’ll respect that. I think we showed our performance today for sure.”

Schumacher: “Key moment” of race was first stint on Mediums

Heading into the weekend, Schumacher said Haas was trying to extract the most from the previous race weekend at Zandvoort because they felt the high speed Monza would be “tough” after their lack of pace at Spa Francorchamps.

This turned out not to be the case for Haas, with the German saying the “key moment” in the race was during the first stint after the team decided to start on the alternate strategy on the Medium tyres.

He added: “We had the pace, everybody else in front was on all old tyres and we had some really fresh tyres.

“The key moment was in the first stint the mediums and it was just amazing for us.”
