Perez delighted with recovery from ‘worst weekend ever’

Sergio Perez said he was happy to have qualified third for the French Grand Prix behind Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen, after what he termed his “worst weekend” up to that point.

On Friday, the Mexican had a spin in FP1 and could then only finish 10th in FP2, having been delayed by an anti-roll bar issue.

Perez somewhat recovered to finish fifth in FP3 on Saturday morning, but was a full second off Verstappen’s benchmark time, and expressed satisfaction at finally managing to put a solid lap together for qualifying.

“It’s been a good recovery,” said Perez.

“I’ve been nowhere the whole weekend. To be honest, I’ve been struggling a lot.

“I think it probably has been my worst weekend up to qualifying, really, and finally we managed to recover well.”

Perez added that he hoped his racecraft and tyre management would stand him in good stead for a solid result on Sunday.

“That definitely will be the target for tomorrow,” he commented.

“[We will] try to recover, try to beat those red cars. They were very strong today.”
