Manchester City have been banned from UEFA competitions for the next two seasons and fans now think manager Pep Guardiola will leave the club. City were found to have committed “serious breaches” of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play and club licensing regulations.
The Premier League side have also been fined €30million but will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Guardiola has been in charge of City since 2016 but should the UEFA ban be upheld, fans think the Spaniard will move on.
Some have suggested the 49-year-old could return to former club Barcelona.
One wrote on Twitter: “Guardiola getting the next flight out of Manchester to Barcelona.”
Just days before City’s ban was announced, Guardiola admitted he could be sacked by the club if they did not win the Champions League.
City have been drawn against Real Madrid in the last 16 of this season’s competition.
“I accept it. I want to win the Champions League, I dream and will enjoy the games against Real Madrid, to see what I can do,” said Guardiola.
“And this process, the two weeks before, will be the happiest moments of my profession, to imagine what we can do to beat them.
“If we don’t beat them, then the chairman will come, or the sporting director, and say ‘It’s not good enough, we want the Champions League, I’m going to sack you.'”
