Pension fraud: DWP issues urgent warning on the ‘lowest of the low’ as Christmas nears | Personal Finance | Finance

Phone calls were usually a major cause of concern but in 2019 the government banned cold calling in relation to pensions and as such, DWP urged people to approach all unexpected calls with extreme caution.

Additionally, if someone appears out of the blue and offers a “free pension review” savers should be wary.

Offers or mentions of “one-off investments”, time-limited offers, upfront cash incentives, free pension reviews, legal loopholes or government initiatives are all examples of things which should be raising red flags.

In concluding their guidance, DWP urged people to remember that pensions are “for later life, not just for Christmas.”
