No injuries as fire breaks out in garage ahead of Motegi MotoGP

Nobody was injured after an explosion at the Marc VDS Moto2 pit-garage at Motegi ahead of this weekend’s MotoGP race.

As pre-weekend preparation work was continuing into the evening at the circuit, an engine starter, which was being charged in the Belgian squad’s garage, exploded.

The spread of the fire was helped by carpets in the garage, but the circuit’s firefighters quickly put the fire out – with large plumes of smoke billowing out from it.

Fortunately, nobody suffered serious injuries, and the engines/bikes of riders Sam Lowes and Tony Arbolino were not damaged – although further assessment of what was damaged is required.

Lowes returns to the team this weekend after missing recent races with a dislocated shoulder suffered at Silverstone, while Arbolino is fifth in the standings with one win – at Circuit of the Americas.
