The coronavirus pandemic sent Germany into lockdown on March 22 but one furious resident has said he wasn’t offered any support during that time. Calling into LBC from Munich, Jeff launched a scathing attack on Chancellor Angela Merkel after his savings have dwindled during the crisis. He added Boris Johnson has done a much better job in supporting people.

Speaking to Iain Dale on LBC, Jeff said: “I don’t think that any European country is dealing with this in any fashion which is valuable.

“There is going to be a second spike.

“So what I’ve decided to do is sell my house in Britain and to give up my job in Germany and move away to somewhere I can be safe in the winter.

“I think Germany has handled it pretty appallingly.

“They haven’t supported people who they should have supported. Germany has given me no support whatsoever after 14 weeks in lockdown, nothing.

“My savings are down to the ground and I’ve got nothing to thank Germany for at all.

“I think Britain has done a much better job of supporting its people than Germany has.”

His comments come as lockdown restrictions were reimposed in Aberdeen after a surge in coronavirus cases.

The measures, which apply to the Aberdeen City area, will be backed by Government regulations, the First Minister said, and will be enforced if the rules are not followed.

The Scottish government later announced that visits to the hospital and care homes from a named family member or friend will be stopped, with only essential visits being allowed.

The decision was taken following a meeting of the Scottish Government Resilience Committee (SCOR), which also included leaders of Aberdeen City Council, NHS Grampian and Police Scotland.

Extra police officers will be on the streets in Aberdeen to ensure residents comply with the rules.
