McLaren to add Indy 500 winner and former F1 star to stable for 2023

McLaren will add Indianapolis 500 winner and former F1 driver Alexander Rossi to their stable for the 2023 racing season, it has been confirmed.

The 30-year-old has signed a multi-year deal with McLaren’s IndyCar team, Arrows SP, and will partner Pato O’Ward next term.

Rossi is the latest in a growing list of American racers to join up with McLaren, including Colton Herta and Ugo Ugochukwu.

It comes after O’Ward put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with McLaren that will keep him with them until at least the end of the 2025 season.

Brown: Rossi is a proven winner

Rossi has seven IndyCar wins to his name and has Formula 1 experience having raced five times for Manor Marussia during the 2015 season.

McLaren boss Zak Brown has said: “Alex is a proven race winner and an Indianapolis 500 champion, who shares our desire to win.

“It is essential that we put the right talent in place, both inside and outside the car, so we can consistently compete for championships and race wins as a team.

“He is someone we have had our eye on for some time and we’re excited to see what he’ll do as a part of Arrow McLaren SP.”
