Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly set his sights on taking over from Erik ten Hag as the next Manchester United manager.

Ten Hag has been under pressure ever since Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS confirmed their minority takeover of the club.

But the Dutchman’s time in the dugout at Old Trafford appears as if it’s about to end, with reports suggesting Ratcliffe and co have already made their mind up.

The Guardian claim that United will cut ties with the ex-Ajax chief when the season concludes, even if Ten Hag inspires the Red Devils to an FA Cup final victory this weekend.

Should that play out, it would be the second time in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era a Red Devils manager has been sacked following an FA Cup triumph after Louis van Gaal.

However, attention has already switched towards who United might bring in as Ten Hag’s replacement, with Pochettino emerging as a viable candidate.

The Argentine mutually left Chelsea earlier this week and an immediate return to the Premier League is being mooted.

The i report that Pochettino’s sudden availability has complicated United’s manager search because the INEOS bigwigs admire his track record and pedigree.

Ratcliffe has already tried to persuade Pochettino to take over one of the clubs in INEOS’ portfolio, after previously offering him the top job at Ligue 1 outfit Nice two years ago.

Whereas at Old Trafford, the executives that survived the INEOS cull have also retained interest, with Pochettino considered for the role when Ten Hag was hired.

It comes amid a summer of managerial changes across top clubs in England, with Chelsea and Brighton also on the lookout for a new head coach.

Incidentally, the Premier League duo both have one of United’s alternative options on their shortlists, with Kieran McKenna attracting attention from all three clubs.

United will have to move quickly if they want to bring the ex-academy coach and assistant manager back to Old Trafford, with Chelsea and Brighton having been given a hefty head start.

The Red Devils have reportedly made contact with McKenna’s representatives, as they target a surprise hire of the 38-year-old.

Despite his lack of first-tier experience, McKenna is considered one of the best up-and-coming managers in English football, with the Ipswich boss providing stern competition to the other United managerial targets.
