Helmut Marko says Red Bull have fixed and resolved the DRS (Drag Reduction System) problems faced by Max Verstappen during Friday practice at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The Dutch racer saw his DRS flap fluttering during FP1, a problem that the team say was not enhancing the performance of his car, despite complaints from rivals.
It is not the first time this season that Verstappen has faced rear wing trouble after his DRS was hit with intermitted issues during the Spanish Grand Prix. Those problem almost cost him victory.
The team spent the break between practice sessions – and the early minutes of FP2 – working on the problem before Verstappen was released from his garage.
“That is now fixed and resolved”, Marko has told German outlet Motorsport-Magazin, as Red Bull seek to learn why Verstappen is repeatedly hit with DRS problems that Perez is not.
“It is a different wing than we had in Barcelona, but Perez and Verstappen do drive with identical wings and yet it is always Max who is affected by these kinds of problems.”
Engine problems not a concerns for Red Bull
Red Bull fitted both their cars with new power units ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend with both Verstappen and Perez moving onto only their second engines of the season.
There were some early teething issues, however, as Verstappen complained of spluttering during FP1, resulting in a brief spin from the Dutchman.
Marko says the problems encountered were perfectly normal and are now behind the team as they look ahead to qualifying day in Baku.
He added: “With a new engine, it always takes a while before it is adjusted correctly. In FP2, there was nothing more wrong.”
