Manchester United are due to hold Lucas Vazquez transfer talks after the Real Madrid star met with Arsenal, it has been claimed. The Spain international has been a dependable asset for the La Liga side over the years. However, he could be on the move when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.
Manchester United want a right-back to provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, having seen Alex Telles galvanise Luke Shaw on the opposite flank.
And Arsenal are seeking an upgrade on Hector Bellerin, with the Spain international potentially poised to leave the Emirates Stadium behind.
Vazquez has spent the majority of his career as a winger but, in recent times, has morphed into a right-back too.
Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has regularly stated he wants the 29-year-old to stay, having deployed him 24 times in La Liga this term.
However, with the player’s contract winding down, a parting of the ways could be on the cards.

United have sold several players to Real Madrid over the years.
David Beckham departed for the Bernabeu in 2003, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Gabriel Heinze then followed and, in 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo jumped ship.
They’ve found buying from the La Liga giants difficult, however.
Angel Di Maria was the last player to swap the Bernabeu for Old Trafford back in 2014 but he lasted just a year at the club.
What bodes well for United is, however, the fact they won’t have to deal with Real this time around should Vazquez jump ship.
And whether he chooses to move to England, amid interest from elsewhere, remains to be seen.
Speaking recently, Vazquez refused to commit his future to the La Liga giants by saying: “Now what I focus on is the present.
“I am enjoying this year with minutes, I feel comfortable playing and that is what makes me happy.
“I was always from Madrid and I will always be from Madrid.”
The Spaniard had previously stated that his contract situation with Madrid was ‘complicated’.
“That’s a complicated issue,” Vazquez told Movistar when asked about contract negotiations.
“We’ll see what happens. I dedicate myself to work, and in football sometimes it doesn’t depend on just one part. I’m very happy to be in Madrid.”
Vazquez isn’t United’s only target ahead of the summer transfer window.
They’re hellbent on landing Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, regardless of whether or not Edinson Cavani jumps ship to Boca Juniors.
Pau Torres and Vazquez’s Real Madrid team-mate, Raphael Varane, are also under consideration when it comes to strengthening their defence.
And Declan Rice is also a target amid his fine form for West Ham this term.
