Manchester United winger Daniel James does not want to leave the club in the January transfer window, according to reports. The Wales international has made only six appearances for the Reds this season and has been linked with a move away next month.
One mooted potential destination for the 23-year-old has been Leeds United, who travel to Old Trafford this afternoon to face Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
The Whites have been long-time admirers of James and almost clinched his signing in January 2019. However, on that occasion, a deal with Swansea City broke down at the eleventh hour.
“At the time it was the right decision,” James told the Living The Dream podcast last year.
“Leeds were offering me four years. The Amazon Prime documentary shows what happened: I got there in the morning, my agent said things could go to the wire, I did all the scans and medical stuff. I got to Elland Road about 6pm, did all the pictures with my shirt, all the interviews – because they wanted it to go out in the morning – and then it was strange.
Those reports have since resurfaced ahead of the winter transfer window but, according to the Manchester Evening News, James does not plan to leave United in January despite interest also arriving from Everton.
James’ last Manchester United appearance came in November; he scored in the 4-1 Champions League win over İstanbul Basaksehir.
He hasn’t featured in the Premier League since playing 58 minutes of the 0-0 draw with Chelsea in October.
James’ battle for a starting role at United may only become harder in January with Amad Diallo set to complete his move from Atalanta after receiving the required documentation this week to move to England.
