Manchester United have added Ruben Neves to their list of potential transfer targets, according to reports. The Wolves star has been a crucial asset to the club during their time in the Premier League. But, now, a move to Old Trafford could be on the cards come the summer.

Manchester United have several names in mind as they plan towards the summer transfer window.

Erling Haaland is their top target, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to land the Borussia Dortmund star amid the struggles of Anthony Martial, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood this term.

Interest in Jadon Sancho remains, too, despite missing out on the England international back in October.

And, at centre-back, United are eyeing the likes of Raphael Varane and Jules Kounde as they seek a long-term partner for Harry Maguire.

Now, however, 90min claim the Red Devils have added Wolves midfielder Neves to their list of potential transfer targets this summer.

It’s said that United believe he could be the perfect partner in crime for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, who is another player in their sights.

Wolves, for their part, are reportedly willing to part ways with Neves – setting an asking price of £30million for the Portugal international.

That’s because their parent company, Bosun, are looking to ‘restructure their commitment to the club’.

They won’t be pulling out of Wolves altogether but super agent Jorge Mendes has supposedly been told to find buyers and arrange potential exits for some of the club’s top players.

And their loss could be United’s gain, with Neves now in their sights.

Should United be successful in signing Neves, they’ll hope he can follow in the same footsteps of compatriots Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Bruno Fernandes.

Ronaldo arrived at United in the summer transfer window of 2003, replacing David Beckham following the England international’s move to Real Madrid.

He initially struggled to adjust to life in the Premier League but, in the end, came good by firing the club to three Premier League titles on the spin.

Nani touched down from Sporting Lisbon in 2007 and was never able to live up to comparisons with Ronaldo.

But he was still a good asset nonetheless, winning four Premier League titles before eventually being offloaded by Louis van Gaal.

Fernandes was the last Portuguese player to arrive at United, signing from Sporting Lisbon back in January 2020.

And he’s been in remarkable form ever since, bagging 24 goals across all competitions this term – more than any other player.

Meanwhile, a potential move for Neves is likely to increase uncertainty over Paul Pogba’s future.

The France international’s contract at Old Trafford expires in 2022 and, as of yet, the 27-year-old is yet to sign an extension.

But Solskjaer, speaking recently, insisted he was still hopeful Pogba would stay at the club.

“While he’s been at the club Paul has always wanted what is best for Man United,” the Norwegian declared. “He’s been such an important part of the squad on and off the pitch.

“Paul is a player we want to see at Man United and play well. Just to have him back fit for the last two months, he’s going to be important to us.

“We know he can be the difference between many, many points or going through in Europe like we did against AC Milan.

“The focus is now on finishing the season strongly and Paul knows what my thoughts are.”

He also insisted a fully-fit Pogba would be a ‘boost’ ahead of the crunch months of the campaign.

“It’ll be a massive boost and he’s come back bright and he’s ready to go,” the United manager said. “We know how important he will be for us and how important he has been.

“To have players of his quality out for longer periods, that just shows the quality of the others as well.

“But towards the end of the season now, having Paul back fit and getting our forwards back firing again, hopefully we can get that spark and score more goals again.”
