Manchester United are reportedly planning to offer Ousmane Dembele a chance to revive his career if they miss out on Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho this summer.
Dembele has flopped since moving to the Nou Camp from Dortmund for £97million three years ago.
The Frenchman has only registered five appearances in La Liga this campaign and his time at Barcelona may be coming to an end.
United want to offer the 23-year-old a chance to rediscover his old form is Dortmund so not budge from the £115m valuation of Sancho.
But ESPN Spain claim Dembele does not want to join the Red Devils because he is determined to make a success of himself in Catalonia.
The report claims the attacker has told club bosses he does not want to leave this summer and is desperate to fight for his place in the team.
United’s primary target is Sancho but they are a long way off meeting the 20-year-old’s price tag.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sign a new right winger as he attempted to close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City next year.
However, former Liverpool ace Steve Nichol does not think an approach for Dembele would be the right move.
“Is [my head shake] pretty clear? I mean, really? No, no chance,” Nicol told ESPN FC.
“I don’t see that with Dembele, I think he’s going to be one of these kids who’s going to mosey along in his career and all we’re going to say is ‘what if?’, ‘he could have been’, ‘potential’ – all the things that when you get to the latter stage of your career you don’t want to be hearing about yourself.”
United are also hoping to sign a new centre-back partner for Harry Maguire.
But first the focus is on trying to secure Champions League football for next season and they can jump to third in the Premier League table with victory against Southampton tonight.
