Manchester United star Luke Shaw claims it is unacceptable to have not scored against Arsenal after two glorious chances passed his side by. The two Premier League sides played out a goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening.
However, United could have been heading back up the M1 level with Manchester City at the top of the table had they taken their opportunities.
Edinson Cavani replaced Anthony Martial in the starting XI but he missed an open net from a few yards out miday through the second half.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka headed wide late on before Cavani sent a bicycle kick narrowly past the post in added time.
“[It’s] two points dropped I feel,” Shaw said after the match. “I felt we were in control, Arsenal had a spell but we were comfortable and had countless massive chances we haven’t taken. It would have been a brilliant result winning here, we have to be winning these games.
“The chances we had, I don’t think it’s acceptable to come away with a point – I haven’t been in the changing room yet but I’m sure the lads will be disappointed.
“At times we were too slow. Second half we were sloppy and gave the ball away. We didn’t look like we wanted to play. We created the chances and failed to score again and it cost us two points.
“We dropped points in midweek and again here. If we want to be in the title race we have to be winning these games. I don’t know what more to say.”
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also rued his side’s missed opportunities.
“I felt we had the bigger chances to win the game, definitely,” he said. “Decent performance, good defensively, two massive chances second half from good crosses, good play.
United lost to Sheffield United in midweek meaning they have only gained one point from a possible six.
“Wednesday night, that was a disappointing one,” Solskjaer reflected.
“Today you come away with a good performance, I feel they did what they should do.
“Sometimes you can’t control if you take the chances or not. Of course, they had a free-kick that hit the bar so it can go either way. It swings quickly in this game.”
