Man Utd owner Joel Glazer’s strong Jadon Sancho transfer orders as interest rises again | Football | Sport

Manchester United are primed to go after Jadon Sancho again. The Borussia Dortmund star has long been a transfer target for the Red Devils, with interest dating back to Jose Mourinho’s time in charge. However, any potential deal will require the approval of controversial owner Joel Glazer – who ultimately has the final say.

Here we go again.

Throughout much of the season United have been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, who has scored over 35 goals across all competitions this season.

But, in recent weeks, the situation has changed.

United are no longer prioritising Haaland, especially after persuading Edinson Cavani to sign a new contract.

And they’re ready to go after Sancho for a fourth time, having missed out three times previously.

They first tried to sign the forward when he was strutting his stuff across town at Manchester City, only to miss out to Borussia Dortmund instead.

United attempted to land Sancho in 2019, only to find out their failure to qualify for the Champions League ultimately counted against them.

And, just last year, the Red Devils failed again.

Glazer was partially responsible for that, with The Athletic revealing at the time the American had pulled the plug on a deal.

Ed Woodward and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer both tried to convince him into sanctioning a deal for Sancho, who would have cost £108million.

But Glazer ordered the plug be pulled, insisting the club weren’t in a position to sanction big-money arrivals due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Now, however, there’s hope.

Glazer will need to show he’s serious about United, with the American and his brother, Avram, coming under the cosh.

Fans have protested against their regime, forcing their match against Liverpool to be postponed and doing their best to do the same on Thursday evening.

Then there’s the fact that Sancho’s valuation has changed.

Despite scoring 14 goals and registering an impressive 18 assists across all competitions, Dortmund are ready to accept lower bids than they were a year ago.

The pandemic is a factor in that and it’s believed they’re now hoping to secure £85m through the sale of their No 7.

And then there’s Sancho himself.

The Dortmund star is reportedly keen on moving back to England having spent the last four years on German soil, establishing himself as one of the best forwards in world football.

And United appear to be his preferred destination, with Sancho keen on the idea of playing alongside Marcus Rashford for both club and country.

Gary Neville thinks Sancho will end up moving to Old Trafford – while also expressing a belief that interest in Haaland was dead in the water.

He told Sky Sports: “I think if you look at the policy over the last couple of years at Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, I don’t think they will sign another striker.

“I haven’t got the contacts on the inside I used to have so that’s my assumption because they’ve been desperate for Sancho.

“I’m looking at it now and I’m thinking: I think Sancho comes in and I think you’ve got Sancho that will play on that right-hand side. You’ve got the backup of Greenwood on that side.

“Up front, you’ve got Cavani and Greenwood, they’ll want Greenwood to come through because I think he’s outstanding.

“On the left, you’ve got Rashford and Martial and then you’ve got Pogba potentially can fit in there if he’s not in midfield.

“If you sign Kane or (Erling) Haaland as well, I don’t think that works for Manchester United in the way they’ve recruited in the past few years.

“I think it’s Sancho and I think that’s their business done.”
