Manchester United are owed a payment from Inter Milan regarding the sale of Romelu Lukaku two years ago. And, should the Belgium international leave the San Siro for Chelsea in a £105million deal, it will boost the Red Devils’ kitty. Saul Niguez and Ruben Neves are targets for the Red Devils as they look for more options in the middle of the park.

Manchester United have landed Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho so far this summer.

And they’ve also agreed a deal to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, who is poised to jet in for a medical today.

United aren’t done there, however. They also want to sign a new midfielder, amid interest in both Saul and Neves of Atletico Madrid and Wolves respectively.

And, now, they could be set for a healthy cash injection.

While United will bank a percentage of any fee should Lukaku join Inter, due to a sell-on clause, they’re also owed £47m from the Serie A giants.

That’s regarding a payment they missed, with the club still paying off the £73m they spent on signing the 28-year-old from the Red Devils two years ago.

Eurosport’s Dean Jones recently claimed United had a deal for the Wolves star ‘relatively far down the line’, saying: “I know for a fact that they do like Neves, that they’ve been working on it in the background and it’s reasonably far down the line.

“And if they do want to progress with it they can, because the foundations have been laid.”

United have seen Portuguese players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Bruno Fernandes excel over the years.

So it’s certainly possible they’ll go after the midfielder, who has sparkled for Wolves during their time back in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer has opened up on United’s transfer business for the summer so far.

And he’s admitted he’s looking forward to seeing both Sancho and Varane in action, with the pair two of the best players on the planet.

“I’m very happy getting both our players in,” said the Norwegian.

“First of all, the club has shown ambition with getting one of the most exciting young forwards in world football [Jadon Sancho], and one of the most respected centre-backs and one of the most winning centre-backs in the world.

“With him in, we’ve got different ways of playing of course, and I can see different ways of playing with Raphael.

“I can’t wait to get him in and hopefully we can get that sorted as soon as.”

Ray Parlour thinks Varane is the ideal partner for Harry Maguire at the heart of Solskjaer’s defence.

The former Arsenal star said: “Most Manchester United fans will be very excited about Varane coming in. They’ve always looked for someone alongside Harry Maguire.

“If they can get someone of his experience, 79 caps for France, he’s been there and done it. He’s played in big, big games. He’s a World Cup winner. It’s an excellent signing.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer surely can’t complain that he hasn’t been backed. He’s got Sancho and now Varane. It puts a little bit more pressure on him as a manager.

“If I look at some of the back fours of the top teams in the Premier League, Man City have got a great back four, Liverpool’s back four is superb.

“That was the big improvement for Man City last year, how John Stones and Ruben Dias really played well together. They had a really good understanding.

“If Manchester United can get that right as well because Harry Maguire doesn’t miss many games, he had the injury towards the end of last season, but he played every single game before that.

“So if you can put him and Varane together, I’m sure they’d be working on a good partnership.”
