Man Utd eyeing AC Milan pair represented by Mino Raiola but face Everton transfer battle | Football | Sport

Manchester United are keen on signing goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and central defender Alessio Romagnoli from AC Milan, according to reports. The pair, who are both represented by controversial super-agent Mino Raiola, are on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s radar but Romagnoli is also being tracked by Everton, with Carlo Ancelotti a long-term admirer of the 26-year-old.

United are aiming to land a central defender and a goalkeeper during the summer transfer window, with Solskjaer keen to add reinforcements in order to mount a renewed Premier League title challenge next season.

David de Gea and Dean Henderson have both struggled between the sticks as of late, while Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have failed to set the world alight alongside captain Harry Maguire in the back four.

The Red Devils have been linked with a number of top-class defenders in recent months, including the likes of Bayern Munich-bound Dayot Upamecano and his RB Leipzig team-mate Ibrahima Konate.

Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak, widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers on the planet, has also been tipped to take over the reigns from De Gea in the near future.

However, it seems as though United may be looking to raid their current Europa League opponents to address their transfer requirements.

The 20-time Premier League champions are keeping a close eye on Donnarumma and Romagnoli ahead of a potential double swoop, according to Il Milanista.

The former is out of contract at the end of the season and is free to negotiate with clubs outside of Italy in search of a new challenge.

Donnarumma, still just 22 years of age, has established himself as a senior member of the dressing room at Milan with 238 senior appearances already under his belt.

This season he has kept nine clean sheets in Serie A alone, helping the Rossoneri to stay in the hunt for a long-awaited return to the top of the domestic pile.

Meanwhile, Romagnoli remains under contract until the summer of 2022 but could be sold at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old is said to be growing frustrated with his lack of recent game time, which could be hindered further by the potential summer signing of loanee star Fikayo Tomori.

The Chelsea defender has thoroughly impressed club chiefs during his short spell in Milan, and could make the switch permanent if the Italian giants decide to take up their £25million option to buy.

Although United are keen on Romagnoli to feature alongside Maguire at the heart of their defence, they will need to fend off competition from Premier League rivals Everton.

The Toffees have a long-standing interest in the player, with Ancelotti reportedly trying and failing to secure his services on two previous occasions.

United’s hopes of landing the Milan pair could be diminished further by the fact that they are both clients of Raiola, who has a long and storied history with the Red Devils.

The agent’s inability to keep his mouth shut has caused friction with club chiefs on a number of occasions, most recently in November when he claimed that Paul Pogba was unhappy and seeking a summer exit.

Raiola’s suggestions were promptly rubbished by the player himself, who took to Instagram to stress that he remains ‘1000 per cent’ committed to United.
