Man Utd can agree cheap transfers for four players in January amid Antonio Rudiger links | Football | Sport

Manchester United have been linked with a sensational swoop for Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger after it emerged that Ralf Rangnick has a strong relationship with the defender’s agent. Rudiger is out of contract at Stamford Bridge next summer and is yet to put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

The Red Devils have built a formidable squad at Old Trafford but are still some way off this season’s Premier League title contenders.

They have been found wanting at the back this season and barely had a clean sheet to their name before Rangnick took the helm.

The new interim boss will be looking to shore up the defensive side of his squad next year.

And Express Sport looks at four players the 63-year-old could target on the cheap in January before their deals expire next summer, including Rudiger.

Antonio Rudiger

Rangnick may be keen to land a player who already has plenty of Premier League experience.

And he should look no further than Rudiger. The Germany international has been one of the best defenders in the top-flight over the last year and has been instrumental as Chelsea have racked-up the clean sheets.

The 28-year-old is apparently reluctant to extend his deal at Stamford Bridge, with the club’s contract offering appearing to be way off his expectations.

With Mazraoui yet to sign a new deal in the Netherlands, United could offer a cut-price fee to get their hands on the player.

Franck Kessie

Perhaps United’s weakest area this season has been their midfield. Fred and Scott McTominay have both come in for criticism for their performances in front of the defence.

Donny van de Beek could be given an opportunity to impress in a defensive midfield role in the coming weeks, but Rangnick could turn to Franck Kessie.

The AC Milan midfielder is valued at nearly £50million by Transfermarkt but could be available for a fraction of that as the end of his contract approaches.

The 24-year-old is held in high regard and has been instrumental as his side have put themselves in the frame to compete for the Serie A title.

Kessie has bags of experience and would surely be able to offer the United backline the protection it needs.

Corentin Tolisso

United have been linked with Corentin Tolisso in the past and could finally sign the player for much less than they would have had to previously spend.

The 27-year-old has been plagued by injuries since joining Bayern Munich in 2017 and has only played 109 times for the German giants after 160 games for Lyon.

The midfielder has a World Cup trophy and Champions League trophy to his name and clearly possesses a lot of talent.

Rangnick could try and land the player in January as United look to cement a top-four finish.
