Manchester United need to beat Brighton on Sunday if they are to have any hope of reaching the Premier League top four.

That’s the view of Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas with the Red Devils currently down in tenth.

They have won just three of their 11 matches to date and are already ten points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

United welcome Brighton, who are two places above them, to Old Trafford on Sunday (2pm).

And Nicholas believes these are the type of games Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side need to win if they are to have any hope of finishing in the top four.

“Normally I think this would be a straightforward win, but it is not as easy as that for this Manchester United team,” Nicholas wrote in his predictions for Sky Sports.

“Brighton are starting to score more openly and are starting to get there.

“Brighton are more attacking-minded than they have ever been before, so this then becomes an open game.

“I do still think that Graham Potter will change his style accordingly.

“Leandro Trossard came off the bench and made a difference. He is a troubling and exciting player and will cause danger.

“These are the games that matter for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and you have to win these games to think about the top four again.”

But Solskjaer is not expecting an easy match with Brighton.

“We played Brighton quite early when I came in last year and I thought they gave us a really good game,” said the Norwegian.

“I thought we were lucky to win. They have loads of football players there, good footballers who are comfortable on the ball.

”In the last four games, they’ve really turned a corner for me. They’re dominating teams and controlling games.

“Even the defeat against Aston Villa, they controlled that one until they got the sending off. So, the last four, I count them all as wins for them really.

“We’ve got to have loads of energy and go about pressing them really well, because we can’t let them be comfortable here at Old Trafford.”
