have reportedly identified target Edmond Tapsoba as one of three candidates to replace , who is closing in on a permanent move to . Maguire has tumbled down the pecking order at Old Trafford in recent months but looks set to make a fresh start at the London Stadium after an agreement was reached at club level on Wednesday.

United have accepted a bid worth around £30million for Maguire, according to The Athletic, with the 30-year-old expected to finalise personal terms at West Ham over the coming days. He was initially thought to be against the idea of leaving United but is now open to the move after being warned by England boss Gareth Southgate that failing to play regularly would impact his chances of being selected at international level.

The Red Devils have been eager to offload fringe players this summer in order to raise money with the aim of making further signings later in the window. They have already spent over £160m on the likes of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund and will be looking to strengthen in other areas of the pitch before next month’s deadline.

It seems as though United are wasting no time in their search for Maguire’s replacement at the back, with Tapsoba having reportedly emerged as a player of interest to Erik ten Hag. The Manchester Evening News are reporting that Tapsoba is ‘admired’ by those in power at Old Trafford despite the 24-year-old having been linked with Tottenham over the last few weeks.

He made 47 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen in all competitions last season and still has plenty of room for growth at the age of 24, making him a suitable candidate to fill Maguire’s boots at United. His contract in Germany is set to expire at the end of the campaign, which suggests that Leverkusen could be tempted to sell for a cut-price figure this summer.

Tottenham have also been credited with a keen interest in Tapsoba, with Football Insider claiming that he is still a target for the north Londoners following the recent capture of Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg. United, meanwhile, are said to have other irons in the fire after scanning the market for the right type of player to succeed Maguire this season.

Jean-Clair Todibo and Benjamin Pavard have also been earmarked as potential targets by the Red Devils, according to Fabrizio Romano. The latter is said to be especially keen on the possibility of joining United, while discussions have already taken place with Todibo’s camp over what it would take to bring him to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, United are said to be leaning towards offering Jonny Evans a one-year deal, with the Northern Irishman having returned to the club this summer to take part in their pre-season preparations. However, he is not thought of as an adequate replacement for Maguire, with United still on the lookout for at least one extra central defender.
