Man City team news: Predicted line-up vs Burnley as Guardiola to recover from Newcastle | Football | Sport

Manchester City face Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday night (8.15pm), with the champions looking to bounce back from their disappointment at St James’ Park on Saturday. Pep Guardiola will be desperate for three points, but Sean Dyche’s side have won two of their last three matches, and will prove to be tough opposition.

City narrowly escaped Turf Moor with a win last season, thanks to a Sergio Aguero finish that needed goal-line technology to confirm the goal.

The champions were forced to wait until the 63rd minute to take the lead, in a must-win match toward the end of last season.

Despite the scoreline, Burnley failed to have a single shot on target, and were pegged back to just 30 per cent possession.

Meanwhile, City bombarded the Burnley goal with 25 shots, and seven on target.

City are likely to line up with Ederson in goal, after his return from injury.

Kyle Walker started against Newcastle on Saturday, meaning Joao Cancelo may get the nod at Turf Moor.

John Stones and Fernandinho are likely to continue their budding partnership, in the absence of Laporte.

Meanwhile, while Zinchenko could feature on the bench for City, Guardiola is likely to choose Benjamin Mendy ahead of Angelino, owing to the latter’s short stature against the tall forwards of Burnley.

In midfield, Ilkay Gundogan is suspended having picked up five yellow cards this season, with the latest coming against Newcastle.

That means it’s a straight swap for record signing Rodri, who was rested on Saturday.

David Silva also started against the Magpies, so he’s unlikely to feature for the Blues.

That could hand a chance to Bernardo Silva in the centre of midfield, alongside Kevin De Bruyne.

Bernardo’s constant running and closing down would likely be crucial against a physical Burnley team.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus will continue to lead the line while Aguero is out injured.

The Brazilian has been in decent form this season, having scored three goals in five league starts.

Raheem Sterling will occupy his preferred left-hand side in attack. He’ll be looking to add to his 15 goals this season in all competitions.

Riyad Mahrez will want to continue his superb form this season up against Charlie Taylor, who won’t be fully fit.
