Liverpool transfer news: Renato Sanches and four others on Wijnaldum replacement shortlist | Football | Sport

Renato Sanches is one of five names on Liverpool’s radar when replacing Gini Wijnaldum is concerned, reports claim. The imperious Dutchman bid an emotional farewell to Anfield on the final day of the Premier League season as the Reds beat Crystal Palace to secure a third-place finish.

Liverpool failed to agree a new deal with Wijnaldum, who officially departed the club yesterday following the expiry of his deal.

He has now signed with Paris Saint-Germain as he joins up with Mauricio Pochettino, who tried to sign him at Tottenham, in the French capital.

It remains unclear whether Jurgen Klopp will bring in another replacement for Wijnaldum, who played a huge part in Liverpool’s domestic and European success.

Curtis Jones could fill the void while more will be expected of Naby Keita next season after a third underwhelming season on Merseyside.

However, Liverpool are believed to be tracking as many as five midfielders as they explore the market.

According to Goal, Renato Sanches is one of the names on the list.

The midfielder endured a difficult time while on loan at Swansea back in the 2017/18 season but he has since kicked on again at Lille, where he won the Ligue 1 title last season.

Sanches caught the eye at Euro 2020 despite Portugal’s exit to Belgium and the international stage appears to be where he plays his best football.

He burst onto the scene five years ago at Euro 2016 in France before he was snapped up by Bayern Munich, where things failed to work out.

Other options including Brighton’s Yves Bissouma, who is keen to pursue a new venture this summer.

Florian Neuhaus of Borussia Moenchengladbach is also being tracked by the Reds.

Aston Villa’s John McGinn is another player who has been monitored but the Midlands club would demand up to £50m for the Scotsman.

Finally, Ajax teen Ryan Gravenberch has also been scouted and the youngster is highly rated by Anfield chiefs.

Incomings potentially hinge on outgoings though and Liverpool do need to clear the decks, with several players expected to depart.

Those include Xherdan Shaqiri, Neco Williams and Divock Origi, who are all on the club’s transfer list.

Shaqiri is believed to have attracted interest from Lazio while Williams is admired by several Premier League clubs including Burnley and Southampton.
