Liverpool transfer news: Real Madrid make Mohamed Salah top target Edwards face dilemma | Football | Sport

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has reportedly jumped right to the very top of Real Madrid’s summer shopping list as Zinedine Zidane looks to bolster his squad to return to the top of European football.

Salah has been in stunning form for Liverpool over the last couple of seasons, firing Jurgen Klopp’s side to Premier League and Champions League glory.

The goals have dried up a little bit over recent weeks but that has not stopped Real making him their priority target at the end of the season.

Real are second in the La Liga table, two points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, who have two games in hand.

Zidane is expected to secure silverware every year but having not strengthened at the start of the season, he is finding this campaign difficult.

The Frenchman is expected to be backed in six months to make up for the recent lack of spending, which was due to the coronavirus.

And talkSPORT claims Zidane wants to take Liverpool’s Egyptian star to the Bernabeu.

Salah will have two years left on his contract this summer so Reds chief Michael Edwards could be faced with the huge dilemma of whether to stick or twist.

Once a player enters the final 12 months of his deal then the power shifts hands and the club can no longer demand a substantial fee.

That means the next couple of transfer windows are the only chance Edwards will get to secure a top price for his side’s key man.

Salah has recently been quizzed on the possibility of plying his trade in La Liga and he said: “I think Madrid and Barcelona are top clubs.

“We never know what is going to happen in the future, but right now I’m focused on winning the Premier League and the Champions League again with my club.”

Jurgen Klopp was asked about his forward’s comments and he replied: “That’s a tough one, but right now I can say that everything is in the club’s hands.

“Of course I want to break records here and, I repeat, every record in the club, but everything’s in the hands of the club.”

There is talk that Salah could end Real’s interest by signing a contract extension at Anfield.

“We never speak [about contracts],” Klopp told reporters last month.

“Mo is in a good mood and moment, shape and that is the most important. You would have seen him laughing a lot [today].

“The rest is nice for you to write but internally, nothing really [to say].”
