Liverpool are reportedly one of several clubs in contention to sign Folarin Balogun from Arsenal. The striker is regarded as one of the Gunners’ brightest young talents but his long-term future in north London remains a huge doubt as his contract runs down.
Balogun’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the campaign and he is yet to reach an agreement with the club over an extension.
He has made it clear that he wants to stay at Arsenal but the longer the situation rumbles, the more likely he looks to leave the Emirates Stadium.
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder went public with his interest earlier this summer but Arsenal were reluctant to let him go.
Balogun hit 10 goals in 15 matches last season for the Under-23s and has scored in the Europa League under Mikel Arteta this term.
Jones then replied with a prayer emoji, which would suggest he was referring to the prospect of a link up at Anfield.
Balogun also has interest from the Bundesliga and could follow in the footsteps of trailblazer Jadon Sancho by moving to Germany.
Despite speculation regarding Balogun’s future, Arteta remains confident the youngster will stay put.
“He has done really well,” Arteta said after the teenager found the net against Dundalk.
“Every minute that he has been on that field he has been superb. Today he looked a threat again. He scored a goal, he set up another one and he looked really lively and mature on that pitch.
“We are having some discussions with the player.
“He knows that we want to retain him at the club. We know the length of his contract at the moment is an issue, but we are trying to resolve it in the best possible way.
“He said to me he wants to stay at the club so hopefully we can reach an agreement and extend his contract.”
