Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum is reportedly keen on staying at Anfield, with the Dutchman’s future the subject of intense speculation. His current contract is due to expire at the end of the season and negotiations over a new deal have been far from simple.
Liverpool are said to be reluctant to offer Wijnaldum a long-term deal after the midfielder turned 30 in November but, according to a report from 90min, Wijnaldum wants an offer he feels reflects his importance to the club.
The player is now able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs which could see him to leave for free at the end of the season.
He remains a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans, featuring in every single Premier League game so far and the German does not want him to leave.
“I would be happy if he would stay here,” Klopp recently said. “I am pretty happy with Gini as you can see when you look at most of the line-ups.”
