Liverpool are reportedly willing to part ways with Harvey Elliott for a sum of £40million, with Borussia Dortmund showing interest in the young talent.
Elliott, who emerged as a top prospect with Fulham, has been with Liverpool for several years and had his most successful season last year under Jurgen Klopp‘s management.
However, this season has seen a change in fortunes for the 21-year-old under Arne Slot, with a serious ankle injury limiting his appearances since November. With only nine appearances across all competitions this term and no Premier League starts, Liverpool are considering their options and would demand between £35m and £40m for the player.
According to The Sun, Dortmund are keen to provide a fresh start for Elliott, following their success with nurturing young talents like Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham. Brighton are also said to be interested in Elliott, recognising the potential value in a player who still has his best years ahead.
Elliott has been operating in a fiercely competitive squad at present. Often positioned in the front three or dropping back into midfield, the England U21 sensation is battling with several established stars for a spot in the first team.
Slot acknowledged Elliott’s recent struggle for regular action but pointed out that his recovery from injury means patience is required for him to reach peak performance. Selecting his words carefully, Slot expressed: “I agree with you he’s a talented player. He’s been this for us for so long. In recent weeks he comes in quite a lot and gets his minutes over there, but like it is for him, like it is for all the others, they are in competition with many other good players as well.
“In this league, in this tempo, in this intensity, and the quality we have, the other teams have as well, it is not so easy to come back and be at your best immediately.”
Evolving from Fulham’s academy, Elliott became the youngest ever Premier League player when he debuted for the west London club. Liverpool shelled out £4.3m after a tribunal to secure his services. Since moving to Anfield, he has made 128 appearances and found the back of the net 11 times.
He drew plenty of praise whilst under the management of Klopp, with his versatility proving an incredibly useful asset.
Speaking of how he regretted not playing Elliott when he was in a rich vein of form last season, Klopp said: “If I regret one thing a little bit it’s that Harvey didn’t play often enough maybe.
“Because in a very important, intense period – January, a lot of injuries – he played really good. He was probably our best player, right wing, right midfield, all these kinds of things.
“Everybody came back and he had minutes here, minutes there and he didn’t start anymore, came on, big impact.”
