Liverpool have confirmed that Dave Fallows, the club’s long-standing director of scouting and recruitment, will be leaving his post by the end of the year. Having been a part of the Anfield team for 12 years, Fallows is set to depart after aiding in the transition to a new backstage structure following Jurgen Klopp’s exit as manager in the summer.
Fallows joined Liverpool in 2012 from Manchester City where he served as the first-team scouting and recruitment co-ordinator. His significant contributions to the Reds’ recruitment team played a crucial role in assembling a squad that dominated under Klopp’s management.
His exit follows a major revamp of football operations at both Liverpool and its parent company, Fenway Sports Group, earlier this year.
Michael Edwards made a comeback as FSG’s inaugural chief executive of football and appointed Richard Hughes as the new sporting director. Hughes then brought Mark Burchill from Bournemouth’s scouting department.
Edwards and Hughes subsequently supervised the appointment of Arne Slot as Liverpool‘s head coach, along with several other appointments at Anfield and FSG. With these changes, Fallows feels it’s the right moment to conclude his tenure with the Reds.
“Dave has been a trusted colleague for over 10 years and a close friend for two decades,” Edwards expressed. “I respect his decision and wish him nothing but success with whatever he does next. He and his family will always be welcome at our club after the contribution he has made. We will miss him.”
Liverpool‘s sporting director Hughes has conveyed his utmost respect for David, saying: “David’s reputation is second to none in his field and his achievements at the club mean he leaves with utmost gratitude and affection.
“It speaks volumes about Dave that he remained with us to help with the transition and settling-in of a new football leadership team, including myself. I will always be grateful for his advice and assistance during this period.”
Fallows, who boasts a history with Bolton and Newcastle, reflected on his time at Liverpool: “I have been very privileged to work for this incredible football club.
“The fantastic people here starting with the supporters make it so special to have had the opportunity to work with so many talented players and colleagues past and present who are now friends is something I am very grateful for.
“The leadership here, from ownership, through to Michael, Richard, Arne, Billy (Hogan) and Alex (Inglethorpe), is world-class. I have no doubt they will continue to thrive. They are supported by great people across many departments who I will miss working with but will continue to stay close to.
“There are far too many to mention but I am especially grateful to Barry Hunter and all those within the recruitment department who have been a joy to work alongside. Leaving in the knowledge that I will be leaving this place in such great shape is something that means a lot to me.
“I look forward to supporting the team from a different perspective now but with the same passion for their success.”
