Chelsea, on the other hand, don’t appear to need Chielsa as much as the Reds.
They have Mason Mount, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi are all competing for the two places on the wing either side of summer signing Romelu Lukaku.
With their pursuit of Chiesa seemingly over, Blues boss Thomas Tuchel may now turn his attention back to signing a defender having failed to bring one in over the summer.
The Stamford Bridge outfit were heavily linked with Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde, but the clubs couldn’t agree on a fee for the French defender and he stayed in the La Liga as a result.
Sevilla’s sporting director said: “There was a club that he (Kounde) liked, which was Chelsea,”
“The first and only formal offer did not satisfy our desires and was conditional on Chelsea selling a player. It was an important offer, considering the current world where there are so many hardships, but it did not meet our demands, conditions, or quantities.”
