Leclerc reveals how Ferrari will address Monaco strategy issues


Charles Leclerc has revealed how Ferrari will address what went wrong with their strategy during the Monaco Grand Prix.

The Monegasque had led a significant proportion of his home race from pole position, but found himself leapfrogged by teammate Carlos Sainz as well as the Red Bull duo of Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen following the pit-stop phase.

Leclerc was audibly furious at the time on the team radio, and finished the event down in fourth, with Perez taking victory ahead of Sainz and Verstappen respectively.

Leclerc reflects on pit-stop issue

Looking back at the events of the race afterwards, Leclerc explained what happened from his perspective.

“We just had to pit, obviously, and I think once I was in the pit lane, I got the message to stay out,” Leclerc told media, including

“But it was too late for me to do anything else, so there’s not much to add to that. Obviously, it was too late, but it’s like this.

“The first pit-stop was the mistake that made us [lose] the lead and, and then the second one also, but it’s like this.

“We’ll work from there and get better.”

How Ferrari will learn from errors

In terms of how the team move forward from what happened, Leclerc says that they will have discussions about it to assess the mistakes that were made.

“I think the answers, we’ll get them a bit later on,” he explained.

“I think, obviously, it was a complex situation, and we’ll have quite a [few] meetings in the next few days to understand that as a team.

“We still need to discuss a bit more and to go a bit more into details.”

The events of Monaco mean that Leclerc now has a nine-point deficit to leader Verstappen in the World Championship standings, while race winner Perez is only six points behind Leclerc.
