The government’s new cheaper medicine rules have cleared the Senate and will give over six million Australians access to cheaper medicines.
The changes had been threatened with the Coalition making a move to block the motion in the Senate on Thursday after key independents signed on to Labor’s plan.
The 60-day dispensing changes are expected to save patients one point six billion dollars over the first four years; it will be applied to 320 common medicines and comes into effect next month.
