Katherine Ryan has candidly admitted she feared revealing her pregnancy would “hurt her career”.
The comedian, 38, revealed she was pregnant with her second child during a live version of her podcast Telling Everybody Everything.
Three weeks later, Katherine welcomed her baby son Frederick into the world, revealing how long she had had waited to unveil the news.
Katherine, who suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage last year, revealed she decided just to “not mention it” even when going to work in TV studios.

She explained: “It was almost a Kylie Jenner-style reveal. I wasn’t trying to make it not news or make it news, I wasn’t really thinking about that.
“I think because we’d had trouble before. We were like, ‘oh, let’s just not mention it.’ I just didn’t mention this pregnancy, because I’ve been unlucky before.”
Comedian Katherine, who recently had her placenta made into gummybear sweets, added: “I didn’t mention it and didn’t mention it… and then I started getting bigger and I thought, well, I still just won’t mention it.”
Katherine then praised people she had worked with during her pregnancy before she made the news public. She said: “You wouldn’t believe how many studios and how many rooms you could walk into, very clearly in your third trimester of pregnancy, and people are very well trained now, they just don’t mention it and I just kept working.”
The comedian, who shares her son with husband Bobby Kootstra, admitted she also felt nervous her baby news would affect her career.
She told Metro.co.uk: “I think as well, I was nervous, I thought that it might hurt my career. It’s difficult to ignore that there is still inequality.
“People still assumed when they found out I was pregnant, that I’d be cancelling my autumn tour and they wouldn’t have said that if I was Fred’s dad.
“I wasn’t sure if I could feel safe telling people, but then when I told productions, they were so lovely and accommodating.
“Equality has come a long way in the television industry, no-one was anything less than super, super lovely and accommodating for Fred so that was a huge relief.”
Canadian-born Katherine is set to tour the country with her new show, Missus, later this year.
Katherine, who is also mum to 12 year old Violet, was flooded with hundreds of messages asking if she was going to cancel her tour after she announced her baby news.
She explained: “I don’t mind because I understand people are trying to organise their lives and they genuinely don’t mean any harm, they just want to know if these dates are going to be rescheduled.

“But it wasn’t one or two messages. It was a hundreds of messages, people assuming that I would cancel the tour. Fair play they didn’t know that I was due three months earlier, they didn’t have all the information.
“But I just felt like it was important to highlight to people like, well just take a minute, don’t be offended, don’t be defensive but take a minute and just consider, would you ask Josh Widdicombe that when his wife expecting a baby? Would you ask Rob Beckett that? Would you ask Romesh Ranganathan that when his wife’s expecting?
“You wouldn’t? Yeah, so why are you asking me? And if mums do want to take time off? That’s cool as well, like everyone just do what you want to do.”
