“I think at first, I’ll be brutally honest, I found it really tough to watch football, just in general because you can’t do anything about it.
“You’re stuck, you’re off your feet. Coming into the training ground every day, it’s hard to get going because you’re going to be out for so long and I knew that getting the operation.”
Jones was recently accused of “taking up a youth team player’s position” by former teammate Rio Ferdinand, who also said to Vibe with Five “he should have gone ages ago,”
However, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came to the defence of the defender, praising his attitude and his commitment to his injury battles.
“I was out for two years in a three-year period with a knee injury,” said Solskjaer.
“Phil has battled valiantly, I’d say. I know how Phil has felt, you’re embarrassed at times coming in.
“But he has to look after his career and he’s now getting back to fitness.”
