Paul Ready has returned to our screens as Kevin in hit BBC Two comedy series Motherland alongside Anna Maxwell Martin.

The actor plays stay-at-home dad Kevin who is seen to embrace his role among the chaos of the middle-class school mum group in London.

But what else do we know about the actor? Let’s take a look…

Where is he from?

Paul was born in 1977 and grew up in Harborne, Birmingham. He went onto attend the London Academy of Music and Dramatic art.

What has he starred in?

The actor, aged 17, played Romeo in the National Youth Theatre production of Romeo and Juliet at London’s Bloomsbury Theatre with Gone Girl actress Rosamund Pike playing Juliet.

Paul also played the special adviser in the hit BBC series Bodyguard alongside Keeley Hawes as Home Secretary.

He has also starred in Channel 4’s Holby City as Leon Harris in 2006 and Netflix drama The Dig which aired this year.

Paul also starred as the title character in Shakespeare’s Macbeth in 2018 alongside his off-stage wife Michelle Terry as Lady Macbeth at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse in London.

Is he married?

The actor is married to Olivier award-winning actress Michelle Terry.

The actress is regarded for her work with Shakespeare’s Globe, the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre.

Michelle has been the artistic director of Shakespeare’s Globe theatre since 2018.

She also co-wrote Sky One series The Café where she starred alongside Royle Family actor Ralph Little.

In Motherland, Kevin’s absent wife Jill is yet to make an appearance on the series but Paul believes his off-screen spouse Michelle could play the part.

Speaking to Radio Times, he said: “I was saying this to someone the other day, each time a series airs and I’m walking down the road with my wife, she’s always saying, ‘They think I’m Jill.’ So maybe my wife could play Jill.”

Does he have children?

Michelle and Paul have a young daughter named Scout.

Asked how he would feel if his daughter followed in their acting footsteps, he told The Guardian: “I’d encourage her if that’s what she wanted, but I’d make sure it was for the right reasons.

“Not fame and money – there’s got to be something else, otherwise it’s hard to last.”
