Hungarian and Belgian Grands Prix to swap dates in 2023

The Hungarian and Belgian Grands Prix will swap dates in the 2023 Formula 1 season.

With the 2023 calendar being finalised by F1 and the FIA,’s associate site Formula.Hu has learned of the changes being made.

The Belgian Grand Prix had already been shifted from its traditional slot as the first race back after the summer break – the Dutch GP taking it – but further developments mean a change with the Hungaroring is also now required.

Concerts and South Africa

After the Spa race was given a reprieve for 2023 as the return of South African Grand Prix was shelved, a new date was required.

F1 originally planned to squeeze it in during the weekend of July 21-23, but due to the 21st being the national holiday and concerts taking place in Belgium, it became clear it was unviable to host the Grand Prix.

The Hungarian GP was slotted into for the July 28-30 weekend, but was willing to make the switch with Belgium to accompany the Spa event, according to Formula.Hu’s sources.

It means that the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix will be on July 23 with Belgium following on the 30th.

The date change will only become final when the FIA and World Motorsport Council (WMSC) approves the 2023 calendar and ratify it.

The final calendar, including the return of the Qatar Grand Prix and a first trip to Las Vegas since the 1980s is expected within the next few weeks.
