Prince Harry and Meghan Markle celebrated their daughter Lilibet’s first birthday while in the UK for the Queen‘s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, and the couple are said to have marked the occasion with a small garden party.

Lilibet’s birthday fell on Saturday 4 June, and Harry, 37, and Meghan, 40, who are also parents to three year old son Archie, are believed to have thrown a “relaxed and casual birthday party” at Windsor Castle for the youngest child.

An informal garden party was reportedly held at Frogmore Cottage, with many of Lilibet’s royal cousins in attendance at the bash.

The party included picnic food, party games, balloons and a cake, The Sun reports, and the one year old was presented with a number of lavish gifts including a pink toy car.

Sources told the publication: “It was a lovely do and had everything you’d expect from a child’s birthday party.

“But there was no formal entertainment. The idea was for it to be very relaxed and casual, with people free to pop in and out as they wished.

“It was a nice opportunity for the other royal children to meet Lilibet for the first time. And as her first birthday is such a milestone, there was lots of discussion ahead of time about the presents that she would be given on the day.

“One idea that proved very popular was a £75 pink Volkswagen Beetle ride-on toy, which had been spotted in Selfridges.”

Mike and Zara Tindall’s three children, Mia, eight, Lena, three, and one year old Lucas reportedly joined the Sussexes to celebrate Lilibet’s big day, and Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly’s two daughters Savannah, 11, and Isla, ten, were said to also have been be invited to the event.

However, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s three children, Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, seven, and four year old Prince Louis were out and about with their parents on Saturday instead, with the family heading to Cardiff Castle before attending the Party at the Palace.

Lilibet’s party marked the first time many members of the royal family had met the one year old as it was her first time in the UK, and she also met her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II on Friday 3 June for the first time.

After attending the Platinum Jubilee celebrations over the weekend, it’s been reported that Harry and Meghan have already jetted back to California, where they now permanently reside with their two children.

The Sussexes were reportedly driven to Farnborough Airport from Frogmore Cottage, where they have been staying during their visit.

An Insider told The Sun: “There was no fanfare, they just went. They didn’t stick around for the Platinum Jubilee pageant.”
